Test Lab offers special test devices to its customers in several fields covering food, chemistry, medical and textiles. Besides manufacturing quality and sustainable test systems, Mr.Sami Özdemir, Responsible of Test Laboratuvar Cihazları San. Tic. Ltd. Şti, noted that the company can perform required changes in terms of the customers’ request and answered the questions of our editorial board regarding the laboratory investments, the functions and the company’s future plans as well as the products.
Mr.Sami Özdemir:“The laboratory devices used in textile in only one piece of our business,” he said and continued his words: “As a manufacturer, we receive demands from industries like food, chemistry, medical, education for all kinds of laboratory heaters, mixers and sterilizators. We manufacture laboratory dyeing and washing machineries, padding and fixing machineries and light cabins for textile. On the other hand, by using the advantage of being a manufacturer, we have the possibility to perform any kind of adjustments on our machines in compliance with the customers’ requests,” he said.
Interest Is on the rise of Touch-Screen Computers at Laboratories
Özdemir stated that the quality standards defined in textile determine the infrastructure of devices and technologies used and continued: “As we re a sub-contractor country, quality standards are naturally set overseas. No matter how much the Turkish Standards Institute tries to integrate the European Standards to our country, it takes time to see the reflections of these standards into production takes time. Devices used are also adjusted in compliance with these standards. We observe that recently mechanical designs are replaced by electronic and computer controlled devices and these devices use touch-screen computers,” he said.
“The Laboratory Concept of the Industry Can Not Go Beyond Raw Material and Product Control”
Mr.Özdemir answered our questions about the test devices which are intensely used in textile industry and commented : “As the Turkish textile industry is generally focused on apparel, upholstery fabrics and yarns used in these fabrics, device and test demands are limited with these. The durability of the product in short term against light, washing, abrasion, wearing is crucial. For technical textiles and special application products consisting of high value added and latest technologies, specially designed devices are imported from overseas. In terms of product, for instance, you have a good quality cotton in your hand. You can either have a simple yarn or mix it with several fibers, then have it undergone different processes and chemical applications and consequently have high value-added products. Once you achieve this in laboratory level, you can transform this into production process. However, these kinds of studies are not seen in the industry unfortunately. The industry’s laboratory understanding is not beyond the control of the incoming raw material and the control of the manufactured product. As the testing parameters are dictated by the buyers for the manufactured product, these tests are only performed with obligation. If a test device demanded by the buyer is not demanded by another buyer, then the device becomes inert after a short time,” he commented.
Besides the devices and test equipment manufactured, Test Lab also tries to offer solutions for customer’s consumable needs and supplies them on behalf of their customers.
“Laboratory Infrastructure is at Mininum Level in Turkey”
Laboratories have great missions in order to improve quality standards in textile and to develop sustainable production processes. Unfortunately, the necessary importance is not yet given to laboratories in Turkey in this sense. Mr.Özdemir noted that there is no textile R&D laboratories in Turkey except a few large institutions and explained his comments as follows: “So as to improve quality in textile, manufacturers need to be aware about the stages used in the process. There is no textile R&D laboratories in Turkey except a few large institutions. Most of these laboratories are test laboratories and they only carry out tests required by customers. For example, if you product failed a test, I don’t think that these laboratories can make any contribution to the manufacturer to help them pass the test by giving any feedback. In such cases, the solution is searched from outside, from chemical substances or machinery suppliers. Another issue that we have noticed in several enterprises is the fact that when it comes to laboratory everything is regarded as unnecessary and expensive. Thus, the laboratory infrastructure is kept at minimum level. Besides, another important issue is the fact that many devices in the laboratories are not undergoing regular maintenances. The laboratories should be as clean as an industrial kitchen so that we can trust them. However, many managers in small enterprises are not even aware of the fact that a laboratory equipped with good devices and a team can provide positive contribution to their business. The fact that the laboratories, which are very dirty in well-designed offices, indicates that we need to improve ourselves in this aspect.
Özdemir informing that they maintain their studies to develop the product spectrum continued: “As an interesting innovation, by using Nansulate heat isolation dyes in our drying ovens and ovens, we plan to make our devices slimmer and better looking in terms of design. Our devices will become more efficient in terms of energy with the use of this product. We are a manufacturer but we do not have an ideology forcing us to design everything from the beginning. We continue to have technological cooperation with different manufacturers from different countries in order to provide better and higher quality prodycts to our customers,” he said.
