With this new investment, the company has increased its annual production capacity by 36,000 tons, while Barmag’s atmos.io digitalisation platform has been implemented across the entire facility. The new plant stands out for its end-to-end digital monitoring and management of the production process. Thanks to Barmag’s atmos.io platform, all material flows throughout the facility are digitally recorded, monitored and interconnected. Each individual package produced in the process is identified and documented separately with its specific characteristics. This structure enhances transparency in production while significantly improving traceability.
The artificial intelligence-supported systems used at the plant are capable of detecting deviations in the production process at an early stage. This allows operators to intervene immediately in the event of potential issues. Corrections to the material flow can be carried out in real time. The laboratory, which is digitally integrated into the process, ensures the reliability of interventions made to the material flow. This integrated structure contributes to increased efficiency on the shop floor, improved process quality and, indirectly, enhanced product quality.
Fast and Accurate Decision-Making Processes
Commenting on the decision to implement the atmos.io platform, UNITEX CEO Jack Dang states that the system offers a holistic solution covering all stages of production. According to Dang, the platform not only ensures consistently high overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), but also supports fast and accurate decision-making processes and enables flexible adaptation to different customer requirements.
At the new plant, third-party automation systems have also been integrated into the atmos.io platform. Jörg Groß, Lead of Digital Product Development at Barmag, notes that atmos.io is not limited solely to the supplied equipment, but is designed to achieve comprehensive traceability across the entire production process, from the melt to the stored package. This approach is highlighted as one of the fundamental building blocks of the smart factory concept. Remscheid-based plant manufacturer and solution provider Barmag supplied hardware for all process stages of UNITEX’s new investment in Trang Bang, including chip preparation, extrusion, spinning, texturing and auxiliary systems. As a result, the production process has been planned within a fully integrated structure from start to finish.
UNITEX operates under Century Corporation and is among Vietnam’s leading suppliers of high-quality specialty yarns and recycled DTY. With the new plant investment, the company has strengthened both its production capacity and its digitalisation-focused manufacturing approach.
Barmag and the Oerlikon Group
Since 2025, Barmag has continued its chemical fibre activities under the Swiss-based Oerlikon Group. The structure, which includes the brands Oerlikon Barmag, Oerlikon Neumag and Oerlikon Nonwoven, stands out with its research and development efforts focused on energy efficiency and sustainable technologies.
Operating in the fields of filament spinning plants, texturing machines, BCF plants, staple fibre plants and nonwoven production solutions, Barmag offers systems covering the entire manufacturing chain from monomer to textured yarn. Its product portfolio is complemented by automation and digitalisation solutions, as well as high-precision gear metering pumps for various industries.
While Asia stands out among Barmag’s main markets, China, India, Turkey and the USA are particularly significant. Employing approximately 2,500 people worldwide, the company operates in 120 countries through its production, sales and service organisations. Research and development activities focusing on future manufacturing technologies continue at its R&D centres in Germany and China. The Oerlikon Group operates globally in the field of surface technologies. Headquartered in Pfäffikon, Switzerland, the Group is active at 199 locations in 38 countries and generated revenues of CHF 2.4 billion in 2024.
