Sustainable Performance Through Collaboration
As a global leader in renewable cellulosic fiber production, Lenzing Group has formed a significant partnership with the Swiss-based innovative material developer OceanSafe AG. The TENCEL™ Lyocell - A100 & naNea yarn, developed through the joint efforts of both companies, stands out as a sustainable innovation inspired by nature. This new yarn offers an alternative to conventional synthetics for brands seeking high-performance and environmentally friendly materials.
Introduced with a Capsule Collection
As the first result of this collaboration, a sportswear capsule collection has been developed, consisting of yoga apparel, T-shirts, and fleece jackets designed for active lifestyles. The collection will be showcased to industry professionals at Performance Days Munich (October 29–30) and Functional Fabric Fair Portland (November 11–13). The yarn used in the collection provides both durability and comfort, ensuring long-lasting use without the need for additional surface finishing. At the end of its life cycle, the biodegradable structure of the fabric contributes to the concept of circular textiles.
Fiber Technology Centered on People and Nature
The TENCEL™ Lyocell - A100 fiber minimizes environmental impact through a closed-loop production process that conserves resources. OceanSafe's naNea co-polyester, on the other hand, is 93% ocean-biodegradable within 99 days according to ASTM D6691-17 standards and complies with environmental standards through its Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold certification. Fabrics produced from the combination of these two fibers bring together natural softness, moisture management, odor resistance, tear strength, and quick-drying properties.
“Responsible Choices Should Feel Like an Upgrade, Not a Sacrifice”
OceanSafe CMO Matthias Fuchs emphasized the balance between environmental responsibility and performance in his statement about the project:
“We believe that responsible choices should feel like an upgrade, not a sacrifice. This yarn offers brands a scalable, ready-to-use solution that enhances garment performance while supporting environmental commitments.”
Collaborative Development Powered by Global Expertise
Nicole Schram, Lenzing Group's Global Head of Technical Business Development, highlighted that the collection was the product of a joint effort by experts from various fields:
“This collection is a testament to the power of collaboration that scales meaningful change and innovative solutions. Tearfil excelled in yarn development, Impetus contributed expertise in seamless fabrics, Kingwhale perfected the fleece fabric, and G-LOFT® made important contributions with its insulation technology.”
