Dornbirn GFC 2026 Call for Papers Announced

Dornbirn GFC, one of the most significant scientific and technological gatherings of the global fiber and textile industry, has announced its call for papers for the 2026 edition. Researchers, company representatives, and industry professionals will have the opportunity to gain high visibility, engage directly with experts, and present their innovative projects to an international audience.

Five Main Topics Revealed

The organization has grouped this year’s call for papers under five key themes. Transformation areas shaping the industry, multi-stakeholder collaborations, and next-generation technologies are at the forefront.

1. From Fiber Recycling to Systemic Change

Scaling Circularity on a Global Level

The global transition toward a circular economy is reshaping the entire value chain covering natural, synthetic, and man-made fibers. This theme focuses on systemic approaches such as mechanical, chemical, and enzymatic recycling methods, as well as renewable carbon, fiber-to-fiber, and fiber-to-X models.

2. Digital Future – Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Smart Fibers

Digital transformation in textiles is explored through topics such as AI-supported material development, optimization of production processes, digital product passports, and smart textiles capable of integrating sensors. New-generation solutions that enhance traceability across the supply chain—from the production of natural and synthetic fibers to their delivery—are highlighted.

3. Functional and Innovative Fibers

High Performance and Sustainability Together

This theme encompasses a wide spectrum of innovation, ranging from bio-based polymers to new types of synthetic fibers, from functionalized natural fibers to hybrid fiber systems. Application areas include composite materials, technical textiles, performance sportswear, and much more.

4. Workwear and Protective Clothing

Fiber Technologies Focused on Defense and Security

Flame, heat, and cut resistance; ballistic protection; natural–synthetic hybrid protective fabrics; and circular design principles constitute the core focus of this theme. In particular, new fiber solutions that enhance comfort and durability in defense and military applications will be evaluated.

5. Cross-Industry Innovation: Fiber–Textile Meets Paper

The interaction between the fiber, textile, and paper industries offers important opportunities for the development of next-generation sustainable raw materials, advanced surface technologies, and high-value paper applications. This theme promotes innovative projects that support cross-industry collaboration.
