The Textile in Pakistan and Megatech Make a Rapid Progress

In Asia, where the heart of the global textile sector, China has been through a significant examination in order to be able to take a place in the Pakistan market, where there is a competition between India and Bangladesh. Both within its own borders and in the surrounding region, the country that is an important textile manufacturer, is considered to be an important investment location in the textile machinery sector. Pakistan, which has a population of more than 140 million, is the 4th greatest cotton manufacturer, the 3rd greatest cotton consumer and the 9th greatest apparel and textile exporter of the world. There are 4,654 registered company of textile and apparel in Pakistan, the textile and apparel exports of which grew by 30,38 percent in the previous year.

The growth figures of the Pakistan sector, where there is a great competition between India and Bangladesh, seem to have fallen behind its competitors. For example while India has achieved a growth of 6 percent in the recent years, Pakistan grew only by 2,5 percent. For that reason, with the 2004-2014 Textile Policy, the Pakistan Government provides a great support in order to increase the export power of the national textile sector. The Pakistan Government, which evaluates the textile sector as a priority sector, aims to increase the country’s textile exports to $ 25 billion in 2014. In 2011, the country’s total export revenue amounted to $ 25 billion, 56 percent – in other words $ 13,8 billion - of which came from the textile exports. Therefore the sector is provided with investment incentives, conveniences in machinery imports, promotion activities. The Pakistan Government, which conduct studies in order to increase the number of domestic investments in the country, aslo carries out activities to increase the number of direct foreign investments.

The textile sector of Pakistan, which is forms 8,5 percent of the national income, made a $ 8 billion worth of investments between 2002 and 2007. During 80s and 90s, Pakistan used to have a more effective position within the market and was able to produce 30 or 40 percent cheaper products. However, due to the contamination in cotton and yarn, the country lose its buyers in time and could not benefit from the R&D activities either and despite its wast pşanting areas, the country experienced a decline also in productivity. In this process, the textile sector started to focus on the field of weaving. In the previous year, Pakistan increased its cotton production capacity by 19 percent.

Record Exportation in Cotton

Pakistan, which made $ 24,6 million worth of direct foreign investments in the period of 2010-2011, reached $ 314,8 million in the raw cotton exports in the same period and the combed cotton exports recorded to be around $ 27,12 million. The country generated a revenue of $ 330,4 million from the exports of other textile products and materials. At the beginning of March 2012, the country broke a record and achieved a 77,89 percent of increase in the cotton exports. In this season, an increase of 25 percent has been experienced also in the amount of cotton entering into Pakistan market.

The country’s textile and apparel exports were recorded to be around $13,25 billion in the period of 2010-2011 and the total imports of textile machinery amounted to 450,58 million in the preiod between january and December 2010. With $ 167,65 million, the spinning machines got the largest share among these imported machines. They are followed by the weaving machines with $ 97,81 million, finishing machines with $ 78,89 million, embroidery machines with $ 46,78 million, knitting machines with $ 29,32 million, apparel machines with $ 29,04 million and with nonwoven machines with $ 1,08 million. In Pakistan, there are 25 significant provinces that stand out in textile production and exports. Yarn and Woven are the Main Segments

Pakistan, which forms the 7,6 percent of the spinning capacity of the Asian region, meets 5 percent of the global production. There are 471 official spinning plant and 50 composite companies in the country. According to the data regarding 2009-2010, 2,80 million tons of cotton yarn, 640 thousand tons of synthetic yarn (annually), 60,337 tons of filament yarn (annually) and about 85,543 tons of jute yarn were manufactured. There are 11,266 spindles and 196,000 rotor in the country.

In addition, the country has 1450 production facilities, in the field of weaving. 650 of them are cloth manufacturers and 800 of them are engaged in terry towel production. In terms of machinery parks, there are 27,900 shuttleless looms and 360,000 power looms in the country. 2000 looms and 300,000 industrial looms are used in canvas production. Besides, there are 10,000 conventional looms and 700 shuttleless looms used in terry towel production while 90,000 looms are used in synthetic and silk production. The canvas production in Pakistan, which manufactures about 1 billion sqm of cloths per year, exceeds 100 million sqm in a year. According to the woven exportation figures of the company, $ 2,36 billion worth of revenue was generated from the cloth exports, $ 773 million from the terry towel exports, $ 39 million from the tent and canvas exports, $ 2,07 billion from the bed clothes and $ 591 million worth of revenue was generated from the synthetic-silk wovens exports.

In the weaving sector, country has 1200 production units, in which there are 18 thousand knitting machines, 10 thousand flat knitting machines and 12 thousand circular knitting machines. The country’s knitted apparel and hosiery exports were recorded to be around 2,3 billion Dollars in the period of 2010-2011. In the apparel segment, in addition to 800 industrial facilities, there are nearly 5000 domestic units, in which there are 160 thousand industrial sewing machines and 450 thousand home sewing machines. The country’s apparel exports were recorded to be around 1,7 billion Dollars in the period of 2010-2011.

The trade volume between Turkey and Pakistan reached $ 1 billion in 2010. The officials underline that the relationship between the two countries has the potential to develop further. The officials who argue that a free trade agreement between the two countries will contribute developing the relationship between them, remark that fabrics, apparels, plastics and chemicals stand out among the products imported by Turkey from Pakistan. As for the exports performed by Turkey to Pakistan, air transport vehicles, defense industry products, chemicals, machinery, grain and prefabricated houses stand out.

An Increasing Interest in Megatech Pakistan 2012

The 10th Edition of Megatech Pakistan International Machinery Exhibition of Garments and Textile Technology was organized on March 1-3, 2012 at the Expo Centre Lahore, located in Lahore, the capiral of Punjab. The exhibition supported by Pegasus Consultancy and supported by Pakistan Ministy of Textile Industry, has also been supported by many sectoral institutions and foundations of the company. Lahore, where the fair was organized, is located at the North-east of Pakistan. The city is at the same time the second largest city of the country with its population of more than 6 million. Lahore, which is one of the most important cities for the textile sector, is very important also for the economy of the country. In addition to the manufacturers in Lahore, Megatech Pakistan was also visited by the sector representatives from many other parts of the country and from the surrounding countries. In addition, sector professionals, academics, textile students, commercial enterprises and the representatives of many exporting and importing companies showed great interest in the fair. However the 10th edition of the exhibition was marked by the intense interest shown by the Asian companies. The sector representatives and professionals of Korea, China and Taiwan, which are the strong textile countries of Asia, examined the machines exhibited at the fair. The visitors, who had knowledge about the machines and the solutions produced, were satisfied with the fair.

All the machines and equipments demanded by the sector were exhibited at the fair, which also included participants from the fields of weaving, knitting, sewing and nonwoven technologies, textile materials and accessories. The visitors, who showed great interest in the embroidery machines, evaluated them according to their functionality, usability and their being easily integrated into the system. At the fair, which was also successfull in terms of business volume, many contracts were done between the companies. Textil Dünyası, which takes its palce every year in Megatech Pakistan that became stronger as a platform, where the manufacturers of machinery and machinery technologies and textile manufacturers came together, received great interest from the visitors and the participants. Throughout the 3-day exhibition, many of our issues were delivered to the professionals.

150 companies from 20 countries participated in Megatech Pakistan 2011. These companies were mainly from Australia, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India and Indonesia.
