Techtextil and Texprocess 2026, held in Frankfurt, revealed the current state of the international textile and apparel technology industry in all its dimensions. With 1,700 exhibitors from 54 countries, the event covered a broad spectrum of innovation, from next-generation materials and recycling technologies to high-performance textiles and manufacturing and processing technologies.
Performance textiles are at the centre of innovation
The main theme highlighted at this year’s opening was “Performance Apparel Textiles”. Increasing demand in sports, outdoor, workwear and safety-focused applications is driving the industry towards developing more functional, durable and versatile solutions. In particular, rising investments in defence, security and disaster response are significantly boosting demand for technical textiles that meet high standards. Today, performance textiles are expected not only to provide protection, but also to offer comfort, lightness, breathability and sustainability simultaneously. This situation makes a much closer integration between material development and production technologies essential.
Sustainability and new materials stand out at Techtextil
With 1,500 exhibitors from 52 countries, Techtextil showcased the latest developments in technical textiles. One of the highlights of the fair was the Textile Chemicals & Dyes segment, presented as an independent category. In addition, under the “Nature Performance” label, more than 110 exhibitors introduced natural and bio-based fibre and yarn solutions. This sustainability-driven approach clearly demonstrated that the industry is focusing not only on performance but also on environmental impact. Meanwhile, the fact that the number of exhibitors in the performance textiles segment has doubled compared to the previous edition clearly indicates the rising importance of this field.
Texprocess: Digitalisation and automation at the core of production transformation
Texprocess 2026, with 200 exhibitors from 28 countries, highlighted the transformation in textile manufacturing and processing technologies. Automation, digitalisation and artificial intelligence applications play a decisive role throughout all processes, from design to finishing. One of the standout areas of the fair, Start-up Stars, enabled innovative startups to engage directly with industry representatives and research institutions. This structure shows that innovation is driven not only by large manufacturers but also by the startup ecosystem. As emphasised by Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, the real differentiating factor in the industry is the commercialisation of innovation. The transformation of ideas developed in laboratory environments into market-ready products forms the core approach of the fair. In this context, Techtextil and Texprocess position themselves as platforms where innovation is transformed into tangible outcomes, from fibre to final product.
“Performance Apparels on Stage” area showcases real-life application scenarios
The specially curated “Performance Apparels on Stage” area in Hall 9.0 demonstrates how performance textiles respond under real-life conditions. The products selected by an independent jury cover a wide range, from flame-retardant protective clothing to UV-protective fabrics, from thermoregulation solutions to integrated technologies. The products exhibited in this area are presented to visitors in an experience-oriented manner through live demonstrations held several times throughout the day.
Highlighted products: Protection, comfort and sustainability combined
Some of the products introduced at the fair clearly demonstrate the current state of the industry:
· Flame-resistant protective garments developed for long-duration operations, offering lightweight and breathable structures
· Advanced knitting technologies focused on comfort, providing UV protection without chemical treatment
· High-performance PPE fabrics containing recycled content and resistant to multiple risks
These products show that performance textiles now respond not to a single function but to multiple performance criteria. According to experts, today’s performance textiles must simultaneously deliver protection, durability, comfort and sustainability. This leads to more complex production processes and advanced engineering solutions, particularly in technical textiles. At the same time, the need to develop different standards and production approaches for various application areas makes flexibility in production technologies increasingly critical.

Techtextil and Texprocess 2026 clearly revealed three key trends shaping the future of the textile industry:
