Mahlo Turns 80: From a Small Workshop to a Global Leader

Founded in 1945 in Saal an der Donau, Mahlo GmbH + Co. KG began its journey by manufacturing radio receivers. Today, the company is a globally recognized name in the development of measurement and control systems for the textile, nonwoven, paper, and plastics industries. Its first major breakthrough came in 1958 with the invention of the weft straightener – a technology that still forms the basis of modern straightening machines.

Strategic Expansion in Technology and Product Portfolio

Under the leadership of CEO Rainer Mestermann, Mahlo built a second pillar of growth in the late 2000s, diversifying beyond textiles with the Qualiscan QMS system for web measurement. In 2018, a dedicated production hall was established for this product line. Today, Mahlo boasts one of the market’s most comprehensive sensor portfolios – all developed in-house.

Resilience Amid Global Challenges

With 80% of its revenue coming from exports, Mahlo is naturally affected by global economic shifts. However, the company remains strong thanks to its commitment to quality. “As the demand for high-quality products increases, so does the need for our technology,” says Mestermann. He believes the brand’s solid foundation will help it weather any storm.

Developed in Germany, Shaping the World

All Mahlo systems are developed and manufactured at its headquarters in Saal, Germany. Beyond technology, the company also contributes significantly to local employment. As one of the largest training providers in the Kelheim region, Mahlo invests heavily in ensuring the sustainability of a skilled workforce.

A Family Tradition: Shaping the Future with Innovation and Responsibility

Ralph Greenwood-Mahlo, grandson of the founder, and his wife Aura Greenwood-Mahlo continue to lead the company by upholding its family-oriented values. While maintaining quality, Mahlo systems also help make production processes more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Innovation with Responsibility: The DNA of Mahlo

“My grandfather was a true pioneer who always sought the best solutions for his customers,” says Ralph Greenwood-Mahlo. “We are committed to carrying this legacy forward with realistic, responsible, and sustainable innovation.”

A Global Footprint

In addition to its German headquarters, Mahlo operates subsidiaries in Italy, Belgium, Spain, China, and the USA. Its global service network ensures local support for customers around the world.
