Integrated Transformation in Nonwoven Fabrics

Oerlikon Neumag, a pioneer of global innovation in nonwoven technologies, hosted a special open-house event at its Technology Center in Neumünster, Germany, from July 2–3, 2025. Attended by approximately 50 privileged industry professionals, the event showcased the latest technologies and applications for all stages of the production chain, accompanied by live demonstrations.

Participants not only attended theoretical presentations but also had the opportunity to monitor systems operating on the machinery park. The event, which featured contributions from Oerlikon Neumag's own technologies as well as eight strategic business partners, inspired the industry with its theme of end-to-end process integration in nonwovens production.

Not Only Monitoring Technology – Also Experiencing

The most striking aspect of the event was the ability to experience the technology ‘’live’’ on site. Visitors were shown direct demonstrations of the machines operating on production lines, providing concrete examples of the innovation.

• The hycuTEC hydrocharging system was introduced as an award-winning and patented solution that increases filtration performance while reducing energy consumption in meltblown production.

• PLA-based meltblown filter production demonstrated the potential of environmentally friendly and biodegradable products in the textile industry.

• BiCo PET/CoPET and PP spunbond technologies were presented with examples for applications requiring performance in harsh environments, such as geotextiles.

Not Just Machines, But Also the Spirit of the Processes on Display

Andreas Frisch, Business Unit Manager at Oerlikon Neumag, summarized the event's philosophy; “We don't want to deliver isolated solutions, but rather solutions that are coordinated with our customers and the upstream and downstream process stages”

Strong Partner Contribution: All Links of the Process Chain Meet

Eight strong business partners representing complementary processes in nonwoven production participated at the event:

Weko: Presented solutions for providing consistent fiber performance with innovative spraying systems for spin-finish applications.

Dilo: Introduced innovations for increasing product strength with high-precision machines in needling technologies.

Brückner: Demonstrated energy-efficient solutions for nonwoven finishing with thermo-processing lines.

• Mahlo: Demonstrated technologies that enable real-time traceability during production with online quality control and measurement systems.

Oerlikon Barmag: Provided information on high-precision pump technologies used in spunbond production.

TotalEnergies Corbion: Contributed to sustainability with biodegradable Luminy® PLA raw material.

Somatec: Supported post-production efficiency with high precision and automation in winding processes.

Comerio Ercole: Presented new solutions for surface quality and homogeneity with calendering machines.

Hands-On Training and Consulting: Transferring Knowledge and Experience

Throughout the event, in parallel with technical presentations, consulting engineers provided one-on-one hands-on experience at the machine. Detailed discussions on topics such as process data tracking, raw material behavior, and energy consumption analysis were met with great interest from attendees.

Frisch and Ingo Mählmann, a member of the organizing team, commented on the impact of the idea of "experiencing live" technology on customers and emphasized on the exhibited products which are not only available on catalogs but also live in operational in a real working environment. Besides, easiness of purchasing decisions made possible through on hand user experience with products and made a positive impact on future production strategies.

Neumünster Technology Center: A Global Competence Base

Oerlikon Neumag's headquarters in Neumünster serves not only as a platform for the development and demonstration of production technologies but also as an experience and training center for global textile professionals. Here, the company not only offers machinery but also builds a production vision focused on efficiency, sustainability, and process intelligence.

The Future of Nonwovens is Shaped with Integrated Solutions

Oerlikon Neumag's open house event conveyed a strong message about the future of nonwovens production, highlighting not only technological equipment but also the idea of collaboration and system integration. It once again demonstrated that process optimization for manufacturers is no longer possible with individual machines, but rather with holistic solutions shaped by the triangle of data, energy, and people.

About Barmag

Since 2025, the Swiss Oerlikon Group has continued its manmade fiber business as a subsidiary under the traditional name Barmag. This includes the established product brands Oerlikon Barmag, Oerlikon Neumag and Oerlikon Nonwoven. As a future-oriented company, research and development are focused on energy efficiency and sustainable technologies (e-save).

Barmag is one of the leading suppliers of filament spinning systems for manmade fibers, texturing machines, BCF systems, staple fiber systems and solutions for the production of nonwovens. Together with its range of polycondensation and extrusion systems and their key components, Barmag thus covers the entire manufacturing process -from monomer to textured yarn- and supports it with customer-oriented engineering services. The product portfolio is rounded off by automation and digitalization solutions. In addition, Barmag offers high-precision gear metering pumps for the textile industry and other sectors, including the automotive, chemical and paint industries.

The main markets for the Barmag product portfolio are in Asia, particularly in China, India, Turkey and the USA. Barmag employs around 2,500 people worldwide and is represented by production, sales and service organizations in 120 countries. In the research and development centers in Remscheid, Neumünster (Germany) and Suzhou (China), highly qualified engineers, technologists and technicians develop innovative and technologically leading products for the world of tomorrow.
