Turkish Textile Sector Achieves $4.7 Billion in Exports in the First Half of the Year

According to data from the Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters' Association (İTHİB), the Turkish textile sector exported 1,273,130 tons of goods to 195 countries and free zones in the first half of 2025, earning $4,736,855,000 in revenue. The highest export volume was to EU countries, totaling $1,809,660,000. Meanwhile, exports to African countries increased by approximately $150 million, reaching $729,243,000, making Africa the region with the highest growth rate in this period.

Italy Leads, Followed by Egypt and Spain

On a country basis, the highest exports were made to Italy with $383,432,000. Italy was followed by Egypt with $277,598,000 and Spain with $261,304,000. These figures demonstrate the strong presence of Turkish textiles in both traditional and emerging markets.

Ahmet Öksüz: “Our Target is $12 Billion”

In his statement, İTHİB Chairman Ahmet Öksüz emphasized that the sector has maintained its resilience despite challenging conditions, saying, “Our expectation is to close the year on a positive note by maintaining our presence in foreign markets, especially as domestic demand remains weak.”

Noting that the sector achieved $11.5 billion in exports in 2024 and aims for approximately $12 billion in 2025, Öksüz added, “Our primary goal is to preserve our current market share while increasing value-added and branded exports. We are focused on strengthening our position in key markets such as the U.S. and the EU. In 2024, exports to the U.S. exceeded $780 million, and we aim to raise this figure even higher this year.”

Transformation is Inevitable: Branding, Green Production, and Digitalization

Öksüz stressed that sustainable growth in the sector requires not only production power but also strategic transformation. He stated that branding, design, green transformation, and digitalization are no longer optional but essential. “As an association, we are developing projects that support this transformation and offering new opportunities to our members through fairs, training programs, and trade delegations,” he said.
