The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) consultancy activity implemented within the “Development of Sustainable Competitiveness in the Textile Sector” UR-GE Project conducted by the Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (ETHIB) received the “Good Practice Example” award at the Responsible – Responsibility and International Competitiveness Summit organised by the Ministry of Trade. The award was presented to ETHIB Chairman Turan Göksan by Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat and Deputy Minister of Trade Özgür Volkan Ağar.
The project, launched in 2021, aimed to improve the capabilities of 17 companies in sustainable production, carbon management, energy efficiency and circular textiles. Consultancy services were provided in energy efficiency, corporate carbon footprint management, environmental management systems and life cycle assessment.
LCA Studies Increased Competitiveness
Within the scope of the award-winning life cycle assessment activities, product-based evaluations were carried out in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards. The analyses supported the integration of sustainable production practices into business processes, while action plans were developed to reduce carbon emissions. The resulting reports became important tools that enhanced the competitiveness of participating companies in international markets.
International Experience and Training Support
Through a study visit programme organised in the Netherlands, participating companies had the opportunity to examine current European practices in the field of circular textiles. In addition, training programmes on carbon footprint, product carbon footprint, water footprint and life cycle assessment were organised to strengthen the technical knowledge of industry professionals. ETHIB Chairman Turan Göksan stated that sustainability-focused transformation is of critical importance for the future of the textile industry and emphasised that they will continue to support exporting companies in adapting to new global regulations such as the European Green Deal and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
