Ahmet Şişman Elected as Chairman of İTHİB

The goal for the new term is to increase competitiveness, place value-added production at the center, and strengthen Türkiye’s position in the European market. Following the elections held at the General Assembly of the Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTHİB), Ahmet Şişman was elected as the new Chairman of the Board. Having previously served as Vice Chairman, Şişman entered the elections with a single list and received strong support from the members. In his evaluation after the general assembly, Şişman expressed his wish that the outcome would be beneficial for the sector and stated that he has assumed the role with a strong sense of responsibility.

“We Are Taking Over in a Challenging Period”

In his speech, Ahmet Şişman drew attention to global and sectoral uncertainties, emphasizing that the Turkish textile industry is not only defined by its production power but also constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of Türkiye’s export vision. Highlighting the importance of assuming this role under current conditions, Şişman stated that this process requires a significant level of responsibility. Sharing clear messages regarding the roadmap for the new term, Şişman noted that they aim not only to preserve but to enhance the sector’s competitiveness. He emphasized that value-added production must be placed at the center of the industry and that they will focus on further strengthening Türkiye’s position, particularly in the European market. This approach points to a growth model based not only on production capacity but also on product quality and brand value.

Öksüz: “The Strategic Strength of the Sector Was Built Together”

Ahmet Öksüz, the former Chairman of İTHİB who handed over the position, highlighted the projects implemented during his term. He stated that significant steps had been taken in many areas, from the Textile Engineering Scholarship Project to the Texhibition Istanbul Fair, and from sustainability initiatives to vocational education. Öksüz also noted that members were brought together with international buyers through 68 fairs and 58 delegation organizations. While thanking all stakeholders who contributed to the development of the sector, Öksüz extended his best wishes for success to the new Chairman, Ahmet Şişman.

“This Is Not a Handover, But a Process of Continuity”

One of the most striking messages regarding the new term was the emphasis on “continuity.” Ahmet Şişman stated that they will move forward by building upon the experience accumulated in the previous period and that they do not see this process merely as a change of duty. This approach underlines that the change in management will continue along an uninterrupted strategic path within the sector. At the end of his speech, Şişman also delivered a message of unity and solidarity for the future of the industry. He emphasized that there is no challenge that cannot be overcome as long as they act together and stated that they will continue their work with determination, strengthened by the trust of the members.
