İstanbul Carpet Week, held by The Association of İstanbul Carpet Exporters, hosted activities which enriched “Turkish Carpet” brand.

Turkish Carpet was introduced with ‘İstanbul Carpet Week’

‘İstanbul Carpet Week’ which is adopted to keep Turkish carpet brand alive,  protect and increase its value by the Association of İstanbul Carpet Exporters (İHİB) gained an international identity for the design potential of Turkey.

Uğur Uysal, President of İHİB, highlighted that the things which were carried out within the scope of “İstanbul Carpet Week “activities from 2 to 4 October enriched “Turkish Carpet” brand. President Uysal shared the following statements about the event; “Turkish carpet is not only belong to the ones who make this business but also is the heritage of all living on this land. To carry this heritage to one step ahead, the notions of design and designers need to be brought into the forefront. As İstanbul Carpet Week we organized points out our rich carpet heritage, it also target to gain an international identity for design potential of Turkey.”

Mr. Uysal who mentioned the events realized during İstanbul Carpet Week, said “We have many studies about the carpet during İstanbul Carpet Week that we carried out with an intense participation. 11th National Carpet Design Competition, İstanbul Rug Show, 2nd İstanbul International Carpet Conference, 15th and 17th century Ottoman Carpet lasting exhibition which is realized under the sponsorship of İHİB at Turkish and Islam Pieces Museum and Kumkapı Carpets from the private collection of Lucien Arkas take place among the activities to develop Turkish Carpet.”

Our Priority Is To Carry ‘Turkish Design’ Sense To The Upper

Mr. Uysal who stated that more than 200 foreign participants from 25 countries especially from USA, Canada and England were hosted within the scope of İstanbul Carpet Week activities with the support of the Ministry of Economy and the Association of İstanbul Carpet Exporters, also said “By gathering our manufacturing firms which carry our export with these buyers whom we brought in our country within the scope of buying committee, we enable B2B meetings.”

Mr. Uysal who added his words that the sector had a high added- value export unit price, ended his words as follows “The importance of high value- added export has increased day by day. We have activities to increase value- added within our export. Our priority for this is to carry ‘Turkish Design’ sense to the upper. With this aim, we made the final of our 11th Carpet Design Competition within the scope of İstanbul Carpet Week. Our 8 designers who got to the finals among 128 applications competed cutthroat with the points given by the jury. I congratulate Zeynep Gürbüz who ranked first with the theme of corals, Merve Bütüşaba who ranked second with the theme of formation and Yasemin Songur who ranked third with the theme of the search of hope and I desire their contributions for our sector to be constant.”
